The series 681 was introduced in 1992 as JR West’s first limited express electric multiple unit, developed as a successor to series 485 trains that served limited expresses between the Kansai/Tokai region and the Hokuriku region. The prototype appeared as a 9-car through formation, while production sets were built as 6-car and 3-car sets so they could be separated and joined in service. Over time sets were reversed and reorganized; some remaining sets used as Thunderbird augment trains have been modified with the conductor’s compartment removed, some doors widened for barrier free access, and received refresh work and repainting to match the renewed series 683 color scheme.

– Faithful reproduction of the MOHA681-300 with the conductor’s compartment removed and expanded passenger space.

– Newly reproduced KUHA681-200 with enlarged passenger door.

– Accurate reproduction of the black window surround, blue front and side banding, and the symbol mark that spans the coupling faces.

– Underfloor equipment at each car end reproduced in detail.

– Front end through-gangway door parts included to represent the open door state.

– Destination decal sheet included. Destinations from before the Hokuriku Shinkansen Tsuruga opening are provided so you can reproduce your preferred era.

– Head and tail lights light up using warm white LEDs.

– Lead car coupling uses KATO close-coupling type without hooks. Two-stage electrical connector included.

– Intermediate couplings use truck-mounted close-coupling type couplers with hooks as standard.

– Compatible with interior lighting kit Kato 11-213 (11-214)
