This updated version of the Ku5000, a car transporter used nationwide in the 1960s, is now available.
The Ku5000 was introduced in 1966, a time when Japan’s automobile production was steadily increasing, as a means of standardizing automobile transport. It quickly became the star of Japan National Railways’ freight transport, and at its peak, it served as the “Arrow” express (later express) train, with dedicated trains of up to 20 cars operating throughout the country.
The handrails and other fine details have been redesigned, and this model is being released using new molds created using KATO’s latest technology. Car accessories are also available, recreating the loading cars covered with protective sheets, as they were actually seen.
In March 1984, during the final years of the Japanese National Railways (JNR), automobile transport by the Ku5000 was temporarily discontinued. However, due to strong demand for passenger cars both domestically and internationally, rail transport of automobiles manufactured at Nissan’s Tochigi Plant was resumed in March 1985. In addition to dedicated trains from Utsunomiya to Yokohama Honmoku (for export) and Chidorimachi (for domestic transport), these vehicles were coupled with dedicated freight trains for regional transport. The image of these vehicles was changed from the original red livery to a two-tone blue-and-red livery, and then to the tricolor blue-and-white-and-red livery, which was Nissan’s corporate color scheme at the time. The Cedric
and Pulsar, two of the most commonly seen vehicles equipped with the Ku5000 at the time, were selected as prototypes, and this set of eight vehicles is available in seven molding colors. These vehicles are ideal for loading vehicles for the “Ku5000 Tricolor Livery.” Enjoy the addition of road accessories such as Geotown and Unitram, as well as the recreation of loading onto a car train stopped at a freight station plate.
