The Series EF65 was introduced in 1965, with a total of 308 units produced. Series EF65-1000 locomotives assigned to the Shimonoseki General Rolling Stock Depot have had gray bogies and air conditioning installed in the driver s cab since the 2020s. These locomotives frequently hauled the Salon Car Naniwa on electrified sections and were also used for construction trains such as the Series HIKI 5500 and HOKI 800.
